Philosophy
Empathy, flair and attention to detail
These are all crucial in a successful design. The process should be an exciting and personal experience as it’s important to connect and feel confident in the suggestions being made.
Having studied law at Exeter and King’s College, London, ultimately specialising in property, Rachel’s career changed when her youngest of four children began secondary school. She returned to study both planting design and construction at London College of Garden Design, based at Kew and garden design at Inchbald School of Design, graduating from both with distinctions and winning a college prize.
She is analytical, creative and practical with a sympathetic manner, taking care to listen and observe.
She has a versatile, innovative design style, always seeking to tailor to the individual client and location. Her aim is to marry a home or setting with its surroundings and wider landscape in a sustainable manner.
Rachel finds inspiration wherever she opens her eyes, be that in a hedgerow, in a book, at a concert or at an exhibition, and is especially motivated to protect and improve the local flora and fauna. This has to be balanced with selecting plants to cope with climate change. She considers seasonality and colour combinations carefully and enjoys thinking how the garden will evolve throughout the seasons. Rachel also enjoys designing hard landscaping features such as gates, benches, walls, steps, even sculptures.
